Twinkle, twinkle! Generally, sequin anything is saved for nighttime, but I’m daring you to try wearing it out in broad daylight. I think it’s a similar challenge to wearing formal attire casually (add reference link), it’s all about mixing high and low, shiny and matte to shine through.
Who doesn’t love receiving a special delivery of flowers or a potted plant? Personally, I prefer a potted plant, but I won’t complain if I get either :P. The same can be said if I receive any floral print clothing! It will definitely last longer than any plant I receive because I, unfortunately, do not have a green thumb.
New Orleans, here I come… after a quick layover in San Diego that is! It feels like I’ve been planning this trip for an extremely long time (probably because I have since I started back in January). So I’m so happy to finally be packed and waiting to board the plane!
I wanted to give a quick share on what’s in my bag and some tips for packing for a destination bachelorette weekend!
I’ve posted about mastering weekend style that can transition from day to night easily before, but I’m still obsessing over how to put together the perfect outfit that requires no second layer or accessory change, achieving a flawless transition from desk to dinner or dusk to dawn. I’m especially intrigued by outfits that can be worn late in the day well into the night.
Spring, spring, spring! We’re heading towards the middle in the swing of spring here. It’s my second favorite season of the year, second only because my allergies are out of control around this time and I’m semi-miserably buried in a mountain of tissues while I try to appreciate all the greenery and flowers in bloom right now. It won’t stop me from spending time outside and soaking up some much needed sun though!
Mastering weekend style can seem like style sorcery. Trying to look effortless yet put together isn’t as hard as you think! Sometimes you’re out and about all day long, you don’t have time to change. But going from day to night is as easy starting off with a versatile outfit and changing an outer layer and some accessories.
Clothes that fit make the difference between looking frumpy or looking effortlessly chic. This is where alterations come in. Simply altering a basic tee can make a world of difference! As a petite person who is often drawn to the sales rack, I tend to buy clothes that don’t fit me quite right. Ever since I got my sewing machine back in high school, I’ve saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars on alterations. Usually, they’re basic alterations like hemming pants or jeans or taking in shirts that are a smidge too big. If you know a few sewing basics like how to sew a straight stitch you can easily save tons of money on altering clothes yourself too. Below is a reference list of alterations!
As I grow older, I’m drawn more and more to classic items. Choosing to add pieces to my wardrobe that I know will look fresh years down the line rather than go for the trendy neon it-piece of the season. I think it’s especially great when I find classics with a twist! Like with tweeds. It started with humble beginning, being made for the working class but is now often associated with the extra posh or stuffy professors who wear tweed jackets but has had several iterations of their version of classic with a twist (Rihanna in 2014 anyone?)
Festival season is right around the corner and I am excited! Dressing for an entire day on your feet and out under the hot sun can be tough. It’s important to dress in layers since temperatures can drastically change from morning to afternoon to night. Here are some layered style inspiration for any festivals that you’re going to!
Go girly with some floral and lace! Juxtapose it with a boyish baseball cap to help save you from the scorching heat.
The weather has definitely warmed up here in California, but not enough to be able to wear all my sundresses sans a second layer. I’ve gotten tired of the endless cardigans and jackets I layer over my dresses and I thought there’s bound to be others who are too. So here’s some inspiration for layering dresses over shirts instead! You may feel juvenile; it brings me back to my school days where we weren’t allowed to wear shirts or dresses that didn’t completely cover our shoulders. It was common to see girls wearing a tee under a tank top because of this. But I think it layered the right way you can go from juvenile to chic.
Keep it classic with some lace and stripes. Tip: Layer dresses over shirts that have the same neckline!
