DIY Wood Crossbody Purse

WoodPurseDIY-2

I love making cross-body bags. I’ve transformed a clutch into a cross-body, I’ve made one from scratch, I have a dedicated Pinterest board full of cross-body bags that I want to buy or inspire me to make my own. I was inspired by this embroidered cigar box to make a wood cross-body bag.

Materials:

Wood Box

Wood Stain– I used a soy wood stain meant to mimic a cherry finish.

Clean Rag

2mm Leather Cord, 3 yards

Gold Embroidery Thread

Power drill + bit

Directions:

Prep the wood. Follow the instructions on your wood stain. Be patient, allow for the stain to dry completely.

Apply a coat or two or varnish or sealer.

Attach the strap. Use a rule and pencil to mark the spots where you want to attach the cross-body strap.

Use a drill to create the holes. String the leather cord through. Knot the ends to secure them inside the box.

Twist the two strands of leather. Use a cobra stitch knot to secure the twist and to add some nice detail to it.

Go wear your new cross-body bag! I think I’ll be wearing it all the time this spring and summer 🙂
