This week’s DIY is a mail sorter makeover! We’ve had this sorter for ages and it was looking a bit beat up and sad, so I decided to give it a bit of a polish and add some pizzazz to it. I think this could be easily redone with one found at a thrift store or Goodwill.
Old Mail Sorter
Decorative Nails – I used ones meant for chair upholstery.
Remove any hardware from the wood. I used a small screw drive to help me remove all the pieces nailed in.
Use the sandpaper to lightly sand off the lettering on the mail sorter.
Also sand off any imperfections or scratches on the wood that you want to get rid of.
Print out whatever you want to stencil onto the sorter. I printed out several in different fonts to help me figure out which one I liked best.
Use tape to secure the cut-out words onto the mail sorter.
Use your ballpoint pen to trace the outline of the each word.
Paint in the stenciled words with whatever colored acrylic paint you want. I started with a base coat of black paint before painting over with gold paint, making it pop better.
Add the decorative nails, then go hang your made over mail sorter.
