Cheers to the New Year!

As this year draws to an end I have so many things to be thankful for, to reflect on and to look forward to with the coming of the new year. I’m not planning on a big night out for New Year’s Eve, but I do know I want to toast to the new year in style so I made a pair of festive wine glasses for the big night. Make your own with a few easy steps!

Materials:

Stemless Wine Glasses – or you can use any type of glass cup you want.

Glass and Tile Medium – there are tons of brands and types out there. I found Makezine’s post very helpful to choose which one I would want to use.

Paint Brushes – I used a mix of regular brushes and foam brushes. I suggest playing around with them to figure out what works best for you.

Palette- or paper plate or something you can pour the paints onto.

Acrylic Paint – choose whatever colors you want.

Optional: stencils, tape, other decorative materials.

Directions:

Gather your materials. Follow the directions on the glass medium to prep your glasses. Mine told me to paint the area I wanted the design to be first, then apply the acrylic paint after. I’ve used other types of medium that directs you to mix the medium with the paint.

If you choose to use a stencil, place it on your glass. If you want to use long stencils I suggest using them one small section at a time because the curve of the glass won’t allow you to lay your design smoothly and correctly straightened.

For the stenciled glass: I put the stencil on; applied the medium; waited for it to dry, then applied two layers of the acrylic gold paint.

For the glitter glass: I painted the entire outside of the glass with the medium, then dabbed the glitter on after it dried. After the glitter dried I painted it over with the medium again to seal it in and keep the glitter from potentially flaking off.
