Last week I posted about wanting to tackle disorganized eyesores around my place and shared my newly reorganized jewelry. This week I want to share how I finally figured out a way to organize my scarves. I’m pretty sure as I share more of what I reorganize you all will realized how much of a slob I am.
With my scarves I had been storing them in a bin in my closet. I researched all types of ways to organize scarves. I didn’t like most of them because it always seemed to be stored in a way that would cause my scarves to wrinkle. I was filing at work one day and had an epiphany. I thought I could try organizing my scarves like I would with filing.
Instead of this sad mess that didn’t allow for me to see all my scarves and caused a lot of them to become wrinkled when they were balled up under it all, I transformed them with some filing folders.
For my non bulky, non knit scarves I used a filing method to sort them into the bin. For my knits, there was no space for them to fit, so I decided to hang them with some hangers that stacked so I could save on space.
Get the hangers. Hang the scarves. Stack them. Put it away in your closet.
I already had the hangers in my closet so I did not have to go out to buy anything. If you don’t want to go out to buy hangers you can be inspired by this DIY using cooling racks.
How to fold the scarves to fit in the storage bin:
Depending on the width of your scarf, you either start with it unfolded or folded in half. For my square scarves (such as the case of my fall handkerchief scarf) I would fold it in half, while my longer scarves I would leave unfolded.
Fold the scarf over to cover about three fourths of the folder.
Fold in the sides.
Fold the scarf down.
All done! Now go file that away.
Do you have any tips of tricks to organizing your scarves? Or anything in your closet? I’m still tackling other things that need to be organized like my shoes and sweaters, I’d love to hear ideas in the comments section below.
