This past weekend a friend and I took a ceramic class at Create in Clay in Oakland. We took a Sunday morning class so it was pretty empty. We didn’t realize until later that the annual Bay to Breakers race was happening that same time, so maybe that was why it was so quiet that morning.
They have a couple open storage areas for the people who use the studio to work on their own pieces. It reminded me of the oil painting studio classes I took when I was in San Diego.
The three hour class went surprisingly fast. The instructor was really great about giving each of us individual help during the class.
We got to make a couple pieces each to practice. At the end of class we chose which pieces we wanted to keep to be fired and painted after.
We got pretty messy working at the pottery wheel, thankfully the studio provided smocks and the clay washed off easily with water.
I only decided to keep two of the four pieces I made. We have to wait for the pieces to dry and be fired, so we’ll be back in a few weeks to get continue our weekend adventure.
